Nominee

The present New Zealand hockey selectors (Messrs I. D. Armstrong and R. McKinley) have been ignored by the Canterbury and Wellington associations when making their nominations for the next national panel. Canterbury, which discussed the matter in committee last evening, and Wellington both nominated Mr C. V. Walter, the present Canterbury selector and coach.

In making its nomination, the Wellington association recommended to the N.Z.H.A. that the selection panel hold office for four years. This would include the 1972 Olympic Games at Munich.

Canterbury also nominated Mr Walter as a South Island selector and Mr J. Bate as a New Zealand Colts* selector last evening. Other decisions made by the Canterbury association included: —

On the recommendation of the competitions sub - committee matches will be played early on May 31, the date of the Rugby* test between New Zealand and Wales.

The association will write to the Harewood club requesting an explanation why its senior reserve player-umpires failed to attend two matches. Should the. explanation be inadequate the club will be fined.

Messrs L. Little (senior reserve), J. Stanton (third grade), C. Woods (fifth grade), A. H. Roberts (under 16), and J. W. Bowden (secondary schools) were appointed selectors.
