This places Pine at the head of the Canterbury ranking list again and if his present form holds he should retain this place tor the remainder of the So High' School Old Boys, who began their first season in the A grade with two wins, found the well-balanced Christchurch C team in good form, losing three matches to one, although at least two of the matches could easily have swung the other way and this would have given H. 5.0.8. yet another win. Only six of the eight teams have played their third round. The two University teams have drawn each other and have arranged to play after the V *Polnts now are: Christchurch B 26 Old Collegians 24, H. 5.0.8. 20. Christchurch C 20, Christ’s College 14, Christchurch A 2 and University A and B 2 Foulds began well against Pine. Making few errors and quickly striking a length, he showed more variety in his play than last week. Then it was Pine’s turn to produce good length, making the second game a scorcher with points seesawing to s-all before Pine took it 9-6. Going quickly to a 5-2 lead in the third Foulds could not maintain the pressure and

from then on Pine was clearly ahead. For Christchurch B J. S. Crosbie and A. E. Dunlop turned in surprising. performances. Crosbie scraped home against R. D. One of the most impressive wins of the night was that of G. Hargreaves (H. 5.0.8. He looked fit and really sharp, allowing S. Suckling (Christchurch C) no ehance to get settled into his usual game. Hargreaves had a close match with Suckling last season but on ihis occasion he easily won. The improving J. Mitchell (H. 5.0.8. traded shots well with B. V. Hamilton (Christchurch C). taking the second game after some good volleyIng. Hamilton was inclined to

over hit his basic drives, with far too many misdirected crosscourt shots. The number four players for these teams, N. W. McGillivray (Christchurch C) and S. G. Maister (H. 5.0.8. ' gave an entertaining exhibition. McGillivray used all his guile to outwit a very fit and speedy Maister, who showed quick reflexes and good anticipation.
