WANGANUI. First and second round results of the North Island chess championships, which began in Wanganui yesterday were:—
First Round.—P. M. Daly (Auckland) beat M. G. Whaley (North Shore); C. Evans (Auckland) beat T. Costello (New Plymouth): R. Waayman (Auckland) beat C. Lindsay (Palmerston North): K. W. Lynn (Nel son) beat R. M. McKerras (Auckland): P. B. Goflfin (Palmerston North) beat M. Kopytko (Palmerston North); D. S. Moulin (Canterbury) beat A. J. Ratliff (Wanganui): N. H. Roberts (Wellington) beat L. Whitehouse (Hamilton); P. W. Stuart (North Shore) beat C. B. W. Oldridge (Wellington); P. D. Bray (Auckland) beat W. A. R. Brown (Wanganui); R. S. Wilkin (Palmerston North) beat J. Ma zur (Wellington): G. Malarskt (Wellington) beat J. De Groote (Nelson); P. Fraemohs (Canterbury) beat R. M. McGregor (Napier); H. P. Whitlock (Wanganui) beat K. Rannigan (Dannevlrke).
Second Round.—Brown beat Mazur; Evans drew with Daly; Oldridge beat Ratliff: Waayman beat Lynn; McKerras beat Jopytko; Whitlock drew with Whitehouse: Lindsay beat Wha ley: six games were adjourned overnight.
