ALL BLACK TOUR
Coordination Of Opposition
(H.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 11. The Citizens’ Association for Racial Equality will support a move to co-ordinate the activities of all groups opposed to the 1970 All Black tour of South Africa.
The secretary of CA.R.E. (Mr T. O. Newnham) said today the management committee had received a letter from the New Zealand Universities Students’ Association advocating the setting up of an ad hoc body to co-ordinate opposition to the tour.
The committee had considered the letter and had decided to give full support to the new organisation, said Mr Newnham.
C.A.R.E. had also decided to launch a nation-wide appeal to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to vote for South Africa’s expulsion from the Davis Cup circuit.
Poland and Hungary had already tabled a motion for the exclusion of South Africa. This motion would be considered at the coming meeting of Davis Cup nations. New Zealand had always supported South Africa but now the United Nations had called for the breaking of sporting ties with the country.
