OVERSEAS CAPITAL
Inflow To N.Z. ‘lmportant’ 6V.Z. Preis Association) WELLINGTON, May 7. A sub-committee of the National Development Conference today agreed that the Government should give increased emphasis to the attraction of overseas capital to New Zealand.
Opening discussion on a number of resolutions dealing with the topic, the Governor of the Reserve Bank and chairman of the targets committee (Mr A. R. Low) said that the inflow of overseas capital was crucial if the development targets were to be achieved. The inflow of capital from overseas was historically important to New Zealand and should continue.
“Our image of welcoming overseas capital is not' good and we are losing a lot of potential foreign capital inflow,” said Mr Low. By saying with one voice that overseas investment was welcomed and with another trying to be selective, the potential overseas investor was not given much confidence, he said.
