CLINIC AT CALVARY
Street Appeal This Month Proceeds from a street appeal to be held by the psychiatric day clinic of Calvary Hospital on May 23 will be used to help to build a new occupational centre for the clinic. The sister in charge of the clinic (Sister M. Oliver) said that no definite plans had been drawn up for the new building, but it was estimated to cost $20,000. Work would depend on the finance available, but it was hoped to start before the end of the year. The new centre would be built as near as possible to the present clinic and would probably include a main hall with a stage. It would be suitable for lectures as well as for educational, occupational, social and recreational activities, she said. There would also be a small kitchen and ablution facilities.
The present clinic, which caters for about 20 persons each day as well as several others who come for group therapy, will still be used after the new building is finished. Sister Oliver said that it was hoped to raise about $5OOO from the street appeal, the second to be held by the clinic. Last year the $3OOO collected from the appeal was used to buy equipment, and for the conversion and remodelling of part of the clinic.
Many collectors were still needed for this year’s appeal, she said.
