"The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Vulcan and Bialla ran the best trials at Awapuni yesterday morning and they look the best S respects from there for the taki meeting on Saturday. Vulcan schooled brilliantly In preparation for the Ohau Hack Hurdles and Bialla worked freely to beat Alan's Pride over six furlongs on the course proper. Race-day rider, M. L. Dombroski, took Vulcan over four hurdles. The Byland gelding had the pace on throughout and gave a fine display. Later he worked over five furlongs on the inside in 1:7 1-5, the last three in 414.
Abbacy and Synthetic, also candidates for the Ohau Hack Hurdles, lumped six hurdles with Synthetic the more impressive. Even so this display was well below the standard
Dingus and Rommel jumped six hurdles well. Dingus shows a lot of promise In this department. Royal Guest took two hurdles safely and could show improvement at Otaki. Bialla ran right away from Alan’s Pride to complete six furlongs in 1:22. They went fast early and took 44 for the last three. Bialla looks ready to win her division of the maiden race at Otaki. Tree Tops and Both Ways, sprint, candidates for Otaki, ran half a mils in 55 the last three in 49. *
