Appointment By Council
Mr J. K. Dobson, who was elected to the Lyttelton Harbour Board last October and appointed chairman of the new traffic trade and public relations committee, sent his resignation to the board yesterday.
Mr Dobson now lives in Auckland, and he wrote that he had hoped to be able to carry on his work for the board for a while longer, but circumstances prevented this.He was sorry circumstances did not permit him to share in the exciting developments at Lyttelton.
“We had a small sample of the work. Mr Dobson was able and willing to put into this board,” Mr J. Brand said. “His loss is regretted.” The board appointed Mr G. Burns as chairman of the committee.
Mr Dobson’s seat will be filled by an appointment by the City Council.
Mr J. K. McAlpine, who has been appointed chairman of the National Ports Authority, was present at the meeting, but retired during a discussion on the Metra report to the Government on a container service for New Zealand.
Mr McAlpine will also be resigning from the board, and his successor will be decided by five county councils, or, if they cannot agree, by an appointment by the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott) from •the nominations.
