MANAPOURI TRIP

First Prize In Competition A visit to the Manapouri power project in the August school holidays will be the prize for the seven winnersof a competition organised by the Christchurch branch of the United Nations Association of New Zealand. ■ The competition, which will mark the fiftieth anniversary of the International Labour ■ Organisation, will be open to sixth-form pupils in secondary schools. The first step in the competition will be attendance at an illustrated lecture and a film showing conducted by the project’s publicity officer (Mr G. R. Hanan). Competitors will then have to write an essay of not more than 1250 words on the international aspects of the Manapouri project. The top 14 essayists will be interviewed and the seven winners selected. The winners will visit West Arm and Deep Cove, have lunch on the Wanganella, ride in a jet boat down the Waiau River and visit the glowworm caves at Te Anau.
