Conversion Of Banika
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 30. The third of the young men who were involved in the conversion of the ketch Banika from Lyttelton on March 31 was today sentenced to detention centre training and ordered to pay $2OOO restitution.
He is Johannes Cornelius De Jong, aged 18, an assistant cook, who appeared in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court before Mr D. J. Sullivan, S.M.
De Jong had previously pleaded guilty to -a charge of converting the ketch, valued at $6OOO, and another charge of converting a dinghy valued at $5O. He received the detention centre sentence on both charges.
Rugs Stolen.—Three rugs worth $l5 were stolen on Tuesday evening from a car parked in Caversham Street
