CYCLING TROPHY
J. Kuiper Winner j (N.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON. New Zealand cycling’s top trophy, the Malayan Cup, has been won by J. i Kuiper, now of the ■Netherlands. This is the first time the trophy, for the competitor or official who has done most for the sport during the year, has been won by an overseas • person. Kuiper, formerly of the Hutt Amateur Cycling Association, returned to the Netherlands to become mechaniccoach to a leading Dutch club. Last year he paid his own fare to Mexico where he did a magnificent job as coachmechanic to the New Zealand Olympic team. At the moment he Is preparing to travel with the Dutch national team to the Tour of Britain, the famous "milk run.” Two of New Zealand’s Olympic representatives, J. Dean and B. Beeston, are living with Kuiper and will also ride in Britain.
The track cyclist of the year is B. Preston (Levin), who at the New Zealand hardtrack championships, won the, 1000 metres time trial, the sprint and. with M. Vertonl gen, the tandem.
