Aust. Wins In Ireland

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

BALDOYLE (Ireland).

L. Johnson was the first Australian to win a race in the 1969 Irish flat season. D. Coleman made it an Australian double when he rode the winner of the feature race at the Baldoyle track, to gain his first Irish victory. The Irish flat season opened last Saturday, a week before the English flat season. Johnson, who rode Corrieghoil to win the Malahide Stakes, is No. 1 jockey for the Irish trainer, K. Predergast. He brought the 7 to 1 chance home an easy winer in the sevenfurlong race.

In the main event, the Spring Stakes, over seven furlongs, Coleman finished with a late burst on Santayana (100/30) to gain a five-length win. Coleman is now based in County Kildare as No. 1 jockey to J. Oxx.
