Alsatian Dogs
Sir, —Why should German Shepherd dogs be banned? Is New Zealand not a free country? Each and everyone of us can be replaced, but all people are free, or so I thought, to choose. Mine would be the German Shepherd dog. “Alsatians which worry sheep have lost their owners or have not been properly trained.” In my own opinion the first part of this quotation should read, "Owners who do not worry about their Alsatians have sheepworrying problems.” There is excuse for the Alsatian, but
no excuse for any dog-owner. There are two excellent training clubs in Christchurch. In the rural area where I live dogs roam the streets day and night while mine are safely behind wire yards, if not under supervision. Our neighbours on one boundary are sheep and cattle. If the stock was attacked, I guess mine would be the first telephone to ring, I wonder why?— Yours, etc., ROSE GRANT. Prebbleton, February 25, 1969.
