Bowls Champion Beaten

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. The 1969 New Zealand Zealand Women’s Bowling Association fours tournament opened with mixed fortunes at Dunedin yesterday. More than 600 bowlers are competing in the tournament which will enter post-section play on Thursday. Bowling was held on 11 greens yesterday. An upset was the defeat of last year’s champion four from Marewa by the Wakari four skipped by Mrs L. Vial. The Marewa four, led by Mrs S. Winstanley, conceded the game with one end still to play and the Wakari four leading 24-13. . In other games Mrs Vial suffered a defeat by Mrs E. Wilkie, of Walton, 26-14, but Mrs Winstanley won, 23-15, against Mrs P. Prescott, of Kaitangata. Another previous cham-

pion .four, the 1965 winner led by Mrs G. Smith, Kaiapoi, was beaten, 27-7, by Mrs I. Harris, of Riversdale, and 26-12, by Mrs M. Allott, of Meadowbank.
