J. Logie Chosen To Lead Golf Team
The Canterbury golf selectors (Messrs J. W. Logan and R. E. Clements) appear to have offered some insight into their thinking on the composition of the Freyberg Rose Bowl team by choosing J. F. Logie (Russley) as captain of the provincial team to play Mid-South Canterbury at Ashburton on Sunday.
After representing Canterbury in the 1966 and 1967 Rose Bowl contests, Logie missed selection last year, when the teams were reduced in number from six men to five and the international
player, R. C. Murray, returned to Christchurch. Murray, who is now in Temuka, will be on the opposing side on Sunday, but his Rose Bowl colleagues of last year, E. H. M. Richards, D. R. Hope, R. K. Atkinson and J. R Broadhurst, will help make the Canterbury team a strong one.
Several young players are in the 16-man side, the most notable selection being that of the 17-year-old G. Urlwin, who showed signs of promise in open tournaments last year. The team is:
Atkinson, D. L. Beggs, R. H. Bradley, Broadhurst, J. P. Devine, R. M. Farrant, R. E. Hobbs, Hope, W. D. Hoy. A. K. Hynd. Logie, J. A. Orr, Richards. B. C. Taylor, G. L. Titmus, Urlwin.' Reserves: I. D. Dobson, W? L. Poka. The manager will be Mr S. G. H. Rich. Players not available please advise Mr G. W. A. Green (66-162).
