TENDERS CALLED

Breath-test Tubes

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Jan. 7.

Tenders have been called for the supply to the Ministry of Transport of 30,000 breathtesting tubes. Tenders will close on January 21. The Assistant Commissioner] of Transport (Mr B. C. Campbell) said today that the supply of 30,000 would probably last well over a year. Stocks would be used more quickly at first because of training officers in their use.

Mr Campbell said the tender did not exclude the possibility of the tubes being manufactured in New Zealand, although this was not done at present. “We hope that the tubes will arrive in time for the system still to come into effect on April 1.”
