Police figures say the traffic death toll was 14.255, which was 637 above the previous year’s, some 812,936 people were injured, 157,559 more than the previous year. The police predicted that dead and injured would rise to about Im this year with the nation's cars expected to increase to about 15m ve-; hides. Japan’s population is about 100 m.
