Slaughter Law Not Changed

(N.Z. P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 13. A British member of Parliament has failed in his attempt to ban the ritual slaughter of animals by Moslems and Jews. Mr David Ensor, a Labour M.P., was refused permission in I*arliament to introduce a new law which would bring Jewish slaughterhouses into line with others in Britain, making no exceptions to the rules governing, the killing of animals. Mr Ensor said it was time all religions brought themselves up to date on the matter of humanity. He said Moslems had told him there was no objection in the Koran, or their religion, to making animals unconscious by stunning before throatcutting. Jewish slaughterhouses are exempt from the law under which British abattoirs must render animals unconscious by a mechanically-operated instrument before they are bled.
