Approach To Minister

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. The secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants (Mr C. Marks) is at variance with the general secretary of the national council of the A.S.R.S. when he claims that the council is denying the latter the right to see the Minister of Rail, ways (Mr Gordon). “The secretary of the Canterbury branch la not giving the full or correct facts when he says the national council of the A.S.R.S. declined the offer of the Minister of Railways to meet and argue the meaning of regulation 254 and that the national council has denied me the right to see the Minister,” said the national secretary (Mr N. A. Collins), this evening. “Mr Marks was told that national council had made no arrangements to see the Minister, that it had adjourned and would not meet until February, and that the Minister could not negotiate with him or the Canterbury branch but only with the national body of the union.

“He was also told that if his branch had any views on the application of the regulation they would be represented to national Office in the normal way, and they would be considered. He indicated that this could be done,” Mr Collins said.
