Railways Dispute

Sir, —“X. Y. Zedufius” is wrong as there is no necessity to abandon the railways as they are cheaper and more efficient than the road transport industry which forced the Government to increase rail charges and close branch lines as it fears competition from the railways. These vested road transport interests used the recent railways dispute to increase their already large profits. They had a plan ready to cover such “emergencies,” and had worked it out without consulting the unions to which railwaymen and transport drivers belong.—Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. December 13, 1968.
