Release Of Prisoners

Sir, —1 understand the Christchurch committee for International Human Rights Year had contacted the Secretary for Justice regarding the release of prisoners. The release of the prisoners may not be “rights,” but it is at least “human,” or humane, and at this time of year is worthy of the spirit of Christmas. These prisoners had just one more month to serve, and who knows what good it may cause by their being allowed to share Christmas with their families? Most acts of any Government before an election are termed "election stunts." I do not think all acts are, and, at least, let us give some Christian credit for this particular act.—Yours, etc., BETHUNE. December 13, 1968.
