LEAGUE PARTY
The Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby) was the guest speaker at the Victoria League’s end-of-year, “athome” function yesterday. Other specially invited guests, who were welcomed by the president (Mrs E. Millton), were the deputy Mayor (Mr 11. P. Smith) and Mrs Smith: Mr J. P. Shelley, president of the Navy League, and Mrs Shelley: Mr E. F. Scott, president of the English Speaking Union, and Mrs Scott; Mr J. H. Wakefield, president of the Royal Overseas League, and Mrs Wakefield, and speakers who had addressed morning meetings through the year.
