UNIVERSITY VACANCIES AUSTRALIA University Appointments University of New South Wales invites applications for appointment to. the following positions: School of Electrical Engineering SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER (CONTROL SYSTEMS): Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent and have several years research experience in University or industry in the theory and/or application of modern control concepts. Duties will include teaching and thesis supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, and initiating and leading research in modern control theory and/or its application to advanced computer controlled systems. Facilities include a fully instrumented steamelectric pilot-plant connected by data-link to a hybrid computer. Further information may be obtained from Professor C. B. Speedy. School of Mathematics SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER (APPLIED MATHEMATICS): Applicants must have high academic qualifications and preferably a strong interest in a branch of solid or fluid mechanics. The successful applicant will participate in constructing courses in continuum mechanics for the honours degree in applied mathematics. A senior lecturer would be expected to supervise research students. Further information may be obtainable from Professor V. T. Buchwald. School of Applied Psychology LECTURER: Applicants must have a distinguished academic record and appropriate teaching experience. The School of Applied Psychology provides undergraduate courses for pass and honours students in science, commerce and arts, and a professional course in applied psychology. It also provides part-time and full-time training at the graduate level for Masters degrees and the Ph.D., and for a graduate diploma. Areas of active research at present include various aspects of learning, individual differences in abilities, hypnosis, depression, opinions and attitude change, behavour therapy, and road safety. The School is devoted exclusively to research and postgraduate training. The Professor appointed would be Head of the Genetics Group, in succession to Professor D. G. Catcheside, F.R.S., who is now the Director of the School. The genetical research in the School is at present in the general areas of bio-chemical genettes and microbial genetics, for which it is well equipped. The normal salary for this post is $A13,000 per annum; superannuation is on F.S.S.U. pattern with supplementary benefits. The present academic staff of the Department consists of Professor B. H. Neumann, F.A.A., F.R.S. (Head of Department), a Professorial Fellow, three Senior Fellows, several Senior Research Fellows, Research Fellows, Post-doctoral Fellows and Visiting Fellows. The Department is concerned with research and training in research in various branches of Pure Mathematics. The present research interests of the Department are principally in the theory of groups and in functional analysis, but other aspects of algebra and analysis are also represented. The salary for this Chair is $A12,000 per annum. F.S.S.U. type superannuation with supplementary benefits will apply. Reasonable travel and appointment expenses are paid and assistance with housing is provided. Professors of the Institute are entitled to twelve months study leave on full pay, plus not more than 5A3200 towards expenses, in every four years.
