Death Duty Effect
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Nov. 6.
The Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) told Parliament today he was not prepared to abolish death duties because he was not prepared to inflate the economy to make up for the abolition of the duties. He was replying during the resumed second reading debate on the Estate and Gift Duties Bill to proposals from Mr D. J. Riddiford (Nat., Wellington Central) and the Social Credit leader, Mr V. F. Cracknell (Hobson), for either a reduction or the abolition of death duties.
