PLANS FOR FANS
“The Press’* Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH.
The Woodville trainer, E. Ropiha, announced yesterday that he had completed plans to start Fans in the Melbourne Cup. He will offer the cup ride to H. N. Rauhihi, who has ridden the chestnut in all his recent races.
Air space has been booked for Fans in mld-October and providing there are sufficient horses to complete thp flight, Fans will be in Melbourne several days before the Caulfield Cup. Rauhihi, who has yet to visit Australia is likely to accept the engagement. The chances are that Fans will run in both the big cups, but it is over the longer distance of the Melbourne Cup that he is likely to perform best. Meanwhile Fans is in the Marton Handicap this week-end. Ropiha said that he would not start unless the track was firm.
