Members of the student strike committee have said that if the Government responds satisfactorily to their pleas they may even cooperate in putting on the 1968 Olympic Games. In a public announcement published by newspapers in Mexico City the strike committee said: “Once our problems are solved by the Government, students from all university and polytechnic schools will aid the Olympic Organising Committee actively and without pay.” The students, who have been attacking the Olympic Games, which begin on October 12, as part of their campaign to press the Government to accept demands ranging from dismissal of certain police officials to reaffirmation of student autonomy, said they personally did not have anything against the Olympic Games.
