Proud Chief’s Price Cut
"The Press” Special Service MELBOURNE. Bookmakers reacted sharply to Proud Chief's win in the Avondale Cup on Saturday, and slashed his Melbourne Cup odds from 33/1 to 14/1. Proud Chief can be re-handi-capped up to 101 b on his Melbourne Cup weight of B*7 for the win. Melbourne newspapers yesterday reported Proud Chief s owner. Mr H. George of Auckland, as saying that the galloper would miss the Caulfield Cup and run only in the Flemington event if he came to Australia. Mr George said that the trip would depend on what penalty, if any. Proud Chief received.
