Lifeboat Appeal
It was expected that about $2OO would be raised for the Christchurch Lifeboat appeal from a Rugby match held yesterday afternoon at St Leonard’s Square, Sumner, said the secretary of the Sumner Lifeboat Institution (Mr W. J. Baguley) last evening. About 3000 persons attended the match between the Linwood Ladies and the Sumner Ladies, which was organised by the Sumner Rugby Football Club. “Miss Canterbury," Miss Aroha Manawatu kicked-off and the referee was the All Black full-back W. F. McCormick. Matches between the Linwood Colts and the Sumner Colts and the sst teams from each club were also played. German Week
About 4500 people attended the German Week exhibition in the Durham Street Art Gallery, the convener for the Christchurch Junior Chamber (Mr A. R. Cottrell) said last evening. The “week,” which was actually just more than two weeks, included showings of films at lunch times and in the evenings, as well as musical programmes. The organising committee thought German Week had gone very well, said Mr Cottrell. A wine and cheese party on Saturday evening, attended by 250 persons, marked the end of activities. Tingira Boys The New South Wales branch of the H.M.A.S. Tingira Old Boys’ Association wishes to hear from any former trainees, instructors or ships’ company who served in H.M.A.S. Tingira, the training ship for boys in the Royal Australian Navy, from 1912 to 1927. The branch representative, Mr L. Taylor, of 15 Montgomery Street, Mordialloc 3195, Victoria, Australia, will be in Christchurch on September 25. World Weather

N.Z. Food On Menu
A leading New York restaurant has decided to have New Zealand lamb, smoked eel, beer and Cheddar cheese on its regular menu. It will also offer New Zealand venison during October and November, the deer-hunting season in the north-eastern United States. The restaurant had a New Zealand menu for the week of the National Fancy Food and Confectionery Show in New York at which NewZealand was represented. About 100 special New Zealand dinners were served each day.
