Search For Missing Tramper Today

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, September 1. The Nelson Search and Rescue Organisation will start a search tomorrow for a Paraparaumu tramper overdue on a trip across the Lyell Range, 50 miles west of Nelson.

The tramper, Kerry Silverwood, aged 21, of Paraparaumu, entered the Wangapeka Valley on August 18 to walk to Karamea, on the West Coast. The trip was expected to take him five or six days. Last night he had not arrived. The Nelson police said the tramper went in with ample food to last for several weeks. They said he might have been delayed by flooded creeks and tributaries, but should have been out by now. Tomorrow morning a light plane will leave Nelson to search the track by air. If the man is still not found, a fullscale search will probably be started. The police said that Mr Silverwood was a very experienced tramper, and no fears

would have been held for his safety if he had not beeen so long overdue.
