Mairehau’s Fast Time In Fernside Time-Trial
The strong Mairehau team, the favourite for the event, won the Andreas’Send-Loach Shield, a 10-mile teams’ time-trial, at Fernside yesterday morning. The team of R. E. Knight. A. V. Barford, B. J. Gibbs, and P. L. Pavlell, four of Canterbury’s leading novice cyclists, covered the distance in a very fast 23min 42.95ec. Ranglora. which won the shield last year, finished 33sec behind Mairehau. However, it had the misfortune to be without one of its riders, J. M. Blake, who had appendicitis, and was restricted to virtually three riders. The Timaru A team also had misfortune when G. R Goodall crashed at Waipara on Saturday and had three stitches Inserted in a cut to the elbow Another member of the team G. Hannam. punctured a tyre, and only two riders finished the course together

Sanford to win the Mairehau Novice Wheelmen’s invitation race at Waipara on Saturday. R E. Knight beat the other scratch riders, G. McD. Howes and A. V.
