SCHOOLS’ FENCING
Auckland dominated the girls' section of the New Zealand secondary schools’ fencing championships when it provided all six finalists at Linwood High School yesterday.
Although H. Ngata won the title, the outstanding performer was J. Buswell. Miss Ngata won because of the superior strength of her bind attacks, for which Miss Buswel>l had no counter.
The standard of the boys’ final was lower than in recent vears, although the winner, P. Br'dson, also of Auckland, showed great potential, and a particularly strong defence.
D. Hope (Wellington), the runner-up, was very fast on attack. but A. Piper (Canterbury) suffered lapses in concentration early in the final pool, after being undefeated in the preliminary and semi-final rounds.
D. Butler (Wellington) won the sabre section, being tested only by the eventual runnerup. Piper.
