Waimate Venue In October
(From Our Own Reporter) WAIMATE. With prize-money totalling $l2OO. the South Island Shearing Championship Society will stage the Waimate Festival Shears open championship on October 18 and 19, the opening days of the Waimate Spring Festival. Mr Godfrey Bowen will be compere
Plans for the fixture were discussed at a committee meeting. The chairman (Mr A. J. Kelly) said -the list of sponsors was complete. A total of $1575 had been paid in or promised It was decided to allocate prize money as follows: Open section, $425 on the basis of $260, $lOO. $75. $5O. Senior section, $2BO ($lOO, $BO. $6O, $4O) Intermediate section, $2OO ($BO, $6O. $4O, $2O). Blade section, $2BO ($lOO, $BO. $6O, $4O). Entry fees decided upon were: Open, $5: senior, $4: intermediate $3 and blades $4. The offer of the Lister Shearing Machine Company to supply the machines for the 1968 competition was accepted, and a recommendation made to the ncoming committee that Sunbeam equipment be used in the 1969 contest.
The secretary (Mrs d’A. S. Grut) said incorporation of the society was under way. The president and Messrs B. D. Wright and d’A. S. Grut were appointed to represent the society at a meeting in Dunedin to discuss an organisation to co-ordinate South Island shearing societies.
