Waimairi Rubbish Dump

Sir, —Cr Rich admits that discarded motor tyres are burnt in the Sawyers Arms Road pit, creating excessive air pollution. There must still be empty shingle pits that could be used for burying old tyres. The extra cost of cartage to a distant tipping area shows up clearly as t debit item. But the bronchial agonies inflicted on those particularly allergic to smoke and fume never shows in the known expenses. Noone must be allowed to forget that a growing minority are seriously affected by air pollution.—Yours, etc., PATRICK NEARY. August 27. 1968.
