FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A trough of low pressure is moving eastwards across the country followed by a disturbed westerly airstream.

Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast. — Moderate or fresh north-westerly winds predominating; occasional showers in the Alps. Elsewhere becoming partly cloudy; moderate temperatures. Marlborough, except the Kaikoura Coast. —Fresh north-westerly winds strong at times in exposed places; occasional rain; becoming partly cloudy; moderate temperatures. Nelson.—Winds moderate from the westerly quarter; variable cloud with scattered showers, chiefly about the ranges; model ate temperatures. Buller and Westland. —Fresh westerly winds; cool and changeable with occasional showers. Outlook.—All districts: mainly fair.
