Small Loss At Ashburton
Although the Ashburton Trotting Club made a small loss on the last year’s operations, it was a reasonably successful year, the president (Mr N. Robilllard) said at the annual meeting of the club. Stakes were increased by $3150 to $52,080 over the season and the stakes given by the club in relation to each $lOOO of totalisator turnover were the highest of any trotting club in New Zealand, he said.
Details of the club’s financial statement show that operations for the year resulted in a loss of $1331.76.
The on-course totalisator turnover was $506;790 compared with $523,086 last year and the off-course turnover was $504,089 as against $502,211. The Government received $91,713.69 in taxes.
Officers elected: President, Mr N. Robilllard; vice-presidents, Messrs V. W. Russell and A. M. Bruce; treasurer, Mr A. J. Nlcoll; committee, Messrs D. M. Bruce, K. V. Hood, V. C. North.
