CONFIDENCE TRICK
Two voting men yesterday stole $lO from a shopkeeper in Christchurch by the confidence trick known as "ringing the change.” One of the men asked for a packet of cigarettes and proffered a $2O note. The other man engaged the shop assistant in conversation, and the shop assistant gave an extra $lO in change. Two men were recently sentenced to imprisonment for using the same confidence trick in Christchurch shops. The police again warn shopkeepers to beware of the trick and to telephone the police if any person attempts it.
