REFUSAL OF GRANT
“Request Not Unfair”
The promotion of wool was a national responsibility and, therefore, the Government should not have declined to make a grant to the Wool Board’s share of the International Wool Secretariat’s budget, Mr A. F Wright, chairman of the meat and wool section of the North Canterbury Federated Farmers said yesterday. Mr Wright was speaking at the monthly meeting of the provincial executive committee.
“According to the Ross, report, farmers receive a little more than ssm in tax concessions each year, yet secondary industry receives more than s9m in tax concessions. Therefore, the request of the Wool Board is not unfair,” Mr Wright said. The decision would put the farmer a little further into debt, said the president (Mr W. N. Dunlop).
