Upsets In N.Z. Badminton

DUNEDIN. The women s singles provided the highlights to play in the New Zealand badminton championships in Dunedin last evening. Mrs G. Weatherley (Auckland) was beaten by Miss R. Glenie (also Auckland) in two straight sets, and Miss G. Tompkins (Wellington) forced Nureianenu (Indonesia) to earn every point she won in her singles match. Quarter-final results were Men’s doubles: R. H. and B. Purser (T.) beat Y. C. Lau and D. Tan (O.). 15-1. 15-6.
Junior girls’ singles: Miss C. Compton (W’.) beat Miss J. Mclntyre (S.M.), 11-1, 11-1: Miss R. Glenie (A.) beat Miss M. Trewby (O.). 11-1, 11-1. Boys’ doubles: I. Steel and D. Wiren (W.) boat D. Foster and S. Thorne (C.) 15-13, 15-7; K. Crofskey and B. Purser (T.) beat W. Boniface and H. Sinclair (S.), 15-5, 15-5.
Girls’ doubles: Misses M. Greer and S. Sanson (S.) beat Misses L. Higgins and L. Reid (O.) 15-11, 15-10.
