N.Z. INDOOR BASKETBALL
(N.Z. Press Association) MASTERTON Nelson had the closest match of he day in the national men s invitation men’s indoor basketball tournament at Masterton yesterday. Nelson beat Wanganui. 58-57 after Nelson had led 26-23 at half-time.
Canterbury led Hawera 28-18 at half-time, and won, 58-36. Top scorers for Canterbury were A. Hounsell (13) and R. Millard (11).
Palmerston North beat Wanganui 68-61.
In second-division matches, Marlborough gained two wins, beating New Plymouth 73-39, and Hawke's Bay 59-41.
Tauranga beat Wairarapa 75-52.
Wellington beat Hawera 52-29. Wellington and Palmerston North, which both had two wins tn fifth division play, are the leading contenders for the title.
The touring Australian team. Rockhampton, was beaten by Palmerston North. 83 45, and Wellington defeated Hutt Valley, 71-61.
