Immigrant Voters

Few non-British Immigrants to New Zealand, not as yet naturalised, realised that if they were ratepayers, they were eligible to vote in municipal elections, said the press officer for the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee (Mr P. V. Neary). Mr Neary said the executive of the committee was concerned that so many immigrants did not realise they were eligible to vote. He urged that all nonnaturalised immigrants check local body rolls before the forthcoming municipal elections to see if their names were included.
