Monastic In Good Order
“The Press” Special Service
WANGANUI. Monastic, which goes well when fresh, showed his readiness for Saturday’s Newman Handicap at Wanganui. Most work at Wanganui yesterday was held on the No. 1 grass, which was in good order. Monastic (Holmes) and Contradict (Bradley) began their trial at the mile. They picked up Amicable (Lewis) at the half-mile, where Monastic and Amicable drew clear, eventually finishing four lengths in front of Contradict. They took 54 3-ssec from the half mile, the last three furlongs in 38 1-5 sec. Dunraven (Carroll) went over a circuit of the plough, being asked to sprint down the straight. He has hardened in the last few weeks but will probably benefit from his sprint outing in the Flying Handicap.
