French Ski Star To Visit New Zealand

J. C. Killy, the French skier who won three gold medals at the Winter Olympics in Grenoble earlier this year, arrived in New Zealand last evening to visit New Zealand ski resorts.

Killy arrived in Auckland from the United States with a film unit party of eight. The party was going to Chile to take ski-ing shots, but there was not sufficient snow there so it has come to New Zealand. The party will visit Ruapehu and Taupo before flying to Christchurch on Tuesday. After visiting Queenstown and Coronet Peak they will return to Christchurch and will then visit Mount Cook. Killy won the men's downhill, slalom and giant slalom titles at Grenoble.

He was later charged with breaking the rules of amateurism after the Olympics and was threatened with suspension by the International Ski Federation, but be was later cleared of the charges. Also in New Zealand is a prominent Japanese ski instructor, H. Nohda, at present at the Hermitage, Mount Cook.
