(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The first New Zealand open tennis tournament early next year is expected to carry about $12,000 in prize money. Mr J. D. Moore, chairman of the management committee of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, told the national body 1 that $9OOO would prob- ' ably be available for the men, and $3OOO for the women.

He said it was hoped the tournament would attract the world’s leading professionals. Dates for the Auckland fixture have not yet been set but the tournament will probably be held late in January or early in February, after the Australian open and State championships. Play will last five or six days. The men’s draw will be limited to 32 players, the winner to get about $3BOO.
