FLOODLIT SOCCER
Rangers In Key Game
Rangers face a tense and vital match at English Park this evening in their quest to win the southern league soccer championship. Beaten for the first time last Saturday and toppled from the lead, they must defeat or at least draw witli Western to stay in the chase with Christchurch City, when they clash on Saturday. City has a two-point lead and a superior goal average, and if Rangers were beaten by Western, City would be assured of taking the $5OO first prize. When they last met, also in mid-week, Rangers had a tremendous struggle to beat Western, 1-0, scoring the wining goal in the dying minutes. Unless bad weather delays V. Pollard’s return by air from Palmerston North, Rangers will be at near full strength. They should beat Western, which has had a mediocre season. Rangers and Western will meet at 6 p.m. In the later match, Technical will attempt to ensure itself of third place when it plays Shamrock.
