CAMPING ADVICE
Boys’ Brigade
Service
An information centre will be set up by the Boys’ Brigade in Christchurch to assist any companies planning camps, one-day trips or expeditions. This was decided at a meeting of the council of the Canterbury battalion in Rangiora this week. The council formed a committee to correlate various aspects of the expedition award, camping and tramping. It will arrange the necessary liaison with the police and Search and Rescue Organisation to set up a system of emergency field assistance. The committee will require advice of all proposed outings or camps of any type to be undertaken by brigade com panies. It will advise the training committee of training needs to maintain high standards within the brigade, and help to prepare survival kits for brigade training. Mr K. Brownlee, secretary of the Canterbury Mountain Safety Committee, was elected convener of the committee.
Mr Brownlee said that several organisations and tramping clubs had seen a need for this type of committee within their organisations, but the brigade was the first to act on it. He felt it would have the support of all the organisations.
