An Unusual Customer

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND.

The former world champion snooker player, H. Lindrum, was an unusual customer at the New Zealand Blind Institute’s industrial division in Newmarket, Auckland, on Monday. Lindrum, making his fourth tour of the country, wanted replicas of a couple of 60-year-old baskets made in France which he uses in special exhibitions of trick shots. The ones he has are ter-mite-ridden and muchrepaired. The intricately woven baskets—of a special size and weight—posed problems, but the manager of the division (Mr P. Ballantyne) and the chief instructor, Mr G. Donaldson, said: “Yes, we can do them.” Mr Donaldson told Lindrum he would have them made before Lindrum left New Zealand about mid-September. Lindrum uses the baskets for several tricks, the most sensational being when he shoots a white ball in and a red comes out, often as not making the pocket for which it is aimed.
