Danger At Bridge
Train services were disrupted yesterday afternoon by the subsidence of an abutment of a bridge between Katiki and Hampden, 25 miles south of Oamaru, on the Main South line.
The line is not expected to be clear for normal’running until about 10 a.m. today. The subsidence occurred about 1 p.m. yesterday. Passengers on the express from Invercargill were taken by bus from Palmerston to Oamaru, where they boarded another train for Christchurch. The express is normally due at 7.20 p.m. The train did not reach Christchurch until 10.30 p.m. South ■ bound passengers from Christchurch were taken by rail to Glenavy. from where a bus took them to Dunedin.
All goods services ran only as far as Oamaru, where they were to remain until the line is reopened.
