Eight-Storey Flats Block
An eight-storey block of flats will be built next to Millbrook Flats at the corner . of Rhodes Street and 1 Carlton Mill Road. Construction of the $160,000 block is expected to begin within three months. Of 15 two-bedroom units, the block will be named Garlinge Apartments, after a Welsh village. The manager of Williams Construction Canterbury, Ltd (Mr D. J. Campbell), yesterday said that the Garlinge high-density project would be the fourth for Williams Pro- s perty Developments in | Christchurch in recent years. The others are the ninestorey Millbrook Flats, of i 37 units; the six-storey ' Cambridge Flats, of 15 units; and the six-storey
Rolleston Courts, of 20 units. Mr Campbell said that con-
trary to popular belief there was a steady demand for this type of de-
f velopment in Christchurch. .. The company had built about 600 high-density flats throughout the country, he said. The Garlinge Apartments would be serviced by a high-speed lift. The architect is Mr D. E. Donnithorne, of Christchurch, in association with Williams Architectural Division. The struc- | tural engineers are | Holmes and Wood.
