CRITICISM OF R.S.A.

President Replies

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Aug. 25.

It was the duty and privilege of the young to protect the freedom of New Zealand, Mr H. Mitchell, the Returned Services’ Association president, told the New Zealand Homeservicemen’s conference on Saturday. He said the R.S.A. had been accused of sabre rattling, of living in the past, and of wanting to sacrifice children to wars of no consequence to New Zealand.

He rejected this criticism as baseless and unthinking. Those criticising overlooked the fact that probably 8 per cent of the children of New Zealand had parents in some way associated with the R.S.A.

“We expect the same of all New Zealand’s young people as we expected of ourselves,” he said.
