Golf Classic To Murphy

An American, R. Murphy, sank a 10ft putt on the third hole of a sudden death playoff to beat L. Harris and win the SUSIOO,OOO Philadelphia golf classic. Murphy and Harris finished the final round tied at 276. On the first holes of the play-off they both shot par before Murphy sank the winning putt. Harris was left with a 9ft putt, but failed to make it, giving Murphy first place and $20,000. D. Wysong finished third at 277. F. Beard rallied to tie for fourth with J. Nicklaus and C. Coody, at 278. R. J. Charles (New Zealand), finished on 284, one stroke behind B. Crampton (Australia) who topped the foreign qualifiers.
